To participate in Odyssey of the Mind or any CPSS event, parents must give consent for students to participate using this consent form. This information is required for all students for their safety and for the convenience of event organizers. This Information will be kept confidential and will only be shared in the event of emergency.

It's back!

On Saturday February 9th 2008 enjoy half a day of Spontaneous problems for your team! There's a morning session and an afternoon session (they're identical otherwise). This is a great opportunity for your team to get some Spontaneous Problem practice.

Morning session check-in starts at 8:30am.
Afternoon session check-in starts at 12:00pm.

The fee is only $40 per team. Usually it's the coach who will register the entire team. The deadline for registration is Feb 6th.

Fun Day Registration - Online registration is now closed. To check to see if space is still available, please email odysseybc@gmail.com

Note: There is NO onsite registration on Saturday! You must be pre-registered to attend.

To register a child for Fun Day on Nov 22 2008 at Montgomery Middle school you will need to do 3 things:

Complete the free 2008/09 Odyssey and CPSS Consent Form if you have not already done so this school year.
Complete the Fun Day Registration Form
Bring the registration fee (cash or cheque) to Fun Day. ($20 for Odyssey member schools; $25 for Non-Member schools). The registration desk will be open from 8:20am to 8:50am. Please make cheques payable to "CPSS".

2008/09 Odyssey and CPSS Consent Form

Parents of students participating in Odyssey of the Mind or any CPSS event must complete the annual consent form. This consent and information is required for student safety and for the convenience of event organizers. This Information will be kept confidential and will only be shared in the event of emergency.

Registration for the coaches training in Coquitlam can only be done online.

Group 1:

For NEW coaches, this session will get you started. The session includes Getting Started with Your Team, Solving the Long Term Problem- You Don’t!; Spontaneous Tips and Techniques; Building Team Spirit; General Rules and Problem Procedures and “Building a Play” a how-to for getting your team on right track for solving the long term problem. If you have previously attended a Coaches Training please choose Group 2.

Group 2:

For Coaches with 1 YEAR experience or those who attended fall training. The session includes “Building a Play”, a how-to for getting your team on track for solving their Long Term problem; Program rules changes Made Easy; Style: the difference between 1 and 15 points, Scoring: how to get the best out of every point and those pesky Forms.

Group 3:

For EXPERIENCED Coaches. We’ll go into all the details of how to coach a successful team with emphasis on details in the Program Rules, Style and Scoring.

Tuesday Tips for Coaches

Heads up! The next Coaches training is on Saturday, Jan 10 from 9am to 2pm.
The cost is $15 for each up to 3 people from one school ($5 for each additional person – for lunch). The registration will be sent out shortly!

This training will split the group into three different presentations; Level 1,2 and 3.
Level 1 will be a repeat of the November training only with different presenters which will give the information a different spin – consider doing this even if you did take the November training.
Level 2 is for people who have coached for at least one year.
Level 3 is for more experienced coaches.
It is our intention to raise the bar for all the teams in BC and the only way for you to do that is to upgrade your own skills as a coach.

Tuesday Tips for Coaches

Hi Everyone

I know that you are probably overwhelmed with the amount of material that you got at Coaches Training. Just remember that you are not alone – everyone starts out the same way.

The best advice I can give is to spend the time reading the Handbook and your membership binder materials. It is a lot of information but you wouldn’t go out and try to coach a soccer team without reading the rule book would you?

If you haven’t set up your team then use the Handbook for some ideas and forms that will make the job easier. If you have a team don’t jump into discussing the long term problem right away! Make sure that all the students are committed, that they know the dates of the tournaments and are guaranteed to attend and most important of all – you can teach them all kinds of things, like MAD CLAPS and HISS before they start on the long term (hopefully they will remember something when the time comes!)

Odyssey of the Mind SPONTANEOUS ATTACK day!

Saturday, February 9, 2008 (start time depends on which session you register for)
South Slope Elementary School

Please submit only ONE form per team.

Fee: $40 per Odyssey of the Mind team.

All registrations will be first come, first served however priority will be given to teams who are supplying an experienced coach for judging. In order to accommodate as many member teams as possible we may have to limit the number of teams from any one school. Confirmations will be sent by email. Registration deadline is Feb 6th.

Please bring your $40 team registration fee on event day. Cash or cheque only (payable to "CPSS"). Please arrive up to 30 minutes before your session start time to check-in.
